Sleep Night Residential Counsellor
(Temporary Contract, Full-time, 40 hours/week)
Starting ASAP - August 30th, 2026
(Bargaining unit position)
This position is responsible for providing high quality residential care for 9 female identified youth (14-18) and youth who are gender fluid, non-binary and transitioning from male to female and female to male in a live-in treatment home. The program is committed to fostering an environment which promotes safety and security for youth who have experienced any or all of the following. Traumatic events, abuse, parental/family conflict, neglect, and/or issues with attachment that more than likely are contributing to a deterioration of their mental health, sense of self and low self-esteem. The candidate will primarily sleep in this position but may be required to be awake occasionally to respond to emergency situations. When awake, the incumbent is responsible for assisting the Residential Night Counsellor on shift to provide structure, stability, support and crisis intervention.

Client and House Care-Night Management
Ensures they are actively ready to respond to emergency situations and assist the Residential Night Counsellor.
Direct Client Care
Creates a safe and positive environment and crisis management.
Creates, ensures and maintains a safe and inclusive therapeutic milieu.
Engages in a therapeutic relationship using a relational approach with youth.
Collaboration
Builds productive and supportive relationships with both staff and residents.
Participates in agency initiatives and committees which support the overall agency strategic plan
Report Writing and Documentation
Writes serious occurrence and incident reports, daily logs, medical logs and missing person reports
Ensures data is entered accurately, securely and in a timely manner in the electronic health record in accordance with the Ministry guidelines, accreditation, and Youthlink's policies and procedures.
Supports Organization's Strategy:
Actively contributes to the Agency's Strategic Plan by participating in initiatives and committees to support the overall plan. This includes continual learning and growth in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
Any other duties as assigned.
Highlights of What You Bring
Education
Child and Youth Worker Diploma, Child and Youth Care Diploma, Bachelor of Social Work.
Specialized training in relevant interventions to address behavioural issues from a trauma informed attachment lens is an asset.
Nonviolent crisis intervention- CPI is an asset.
First aid and CPR is an asset.
Experience
:
1 year working with at-risk youth in a mental health setting.
3 years working with at-risk youth, with 2 years being specifically in the live-in treatment program or group living is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Familiarity with suicide/risk assessment and crisis support services.
Familiarity with operating from an Anti-Black Racism lens and knowledge of working with black youth
Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, including lifting, bending and prolonged standing
Knowledge of community services, relevant CYFSA legislation, Quality Service Framework (QSF) and social justice issues.
Hourly rate:
$17.20.
Hours of work:
40 hours per week.
This position works 9 hours.
Monday - Thursday (11pm to 8am) AND bi-weekly Sundays.
Other Requirements:
Broad Record Police Check is required.
Medical clearances including up to date vaccinations and 2 step tuberculosis testing is required.
