Job Description

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Northern Alberta, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The skatepark staff provide positive interactions and promote the YMCA values with the youth and families accessing the skatepark. The Skatepark Coordinator provides mentoring through strong relationship development with youth and staff at the skatepark. They model positive skatepark culture as they participate as fellow skatepark enthusiasts, facilitate skill development for other users and encourage youth to actively participate in additional YMCA events. The Skatepark Coordinator will assist and role model in providing a space where all community members and staff feel safe, welcome, and valued.

Flexible Workdays:



Monday to Friday: 12pm to 8:30pm



Mandatory Workdays:



Saturdays and Sundays: 9:30am- 6pm

Essential Functions



Effective communication with skate mentors, other staff: Youth team and NCC leadership team, and volunteers including documentation of issues, critical incidents, equipment/maintenance issues and daily review of staff communication log. Sharing critical information with youth including special events, behavioral expectations, NCC policies and youth centre updates. Encouraging safety practices and adherence to Health and Safety protocol while out at the skatepark. Role modeling health and safety best practices for staff and community. Lead a team of summer Skatepark Mentors through a successful year, providing coaching, mentorship and opportunities for skatepark staff to grow and develop. Problem solve and troubleshoot issues that may arise, utilizing the Youth Leadership team. Role model and encourage YMCA values and creating positive interactions with youth and families. Develop meaningful relationships with skate park users, skatepark staff, and community members. Inspect all YMCA skate equipment, removing damaged equipment, and reporting any damage to Youth Supervisor. Engage as a fellow skatepark enthusiast and facilitate skill development for users who are interested in learning new skills. Ensure Skate staff are engaging with community members, providing coaching when necessary. Act as needed to ensure a safe environment at the skatepark by notifying Duty Manager or law enforcement of critical incidents. Act as a first responder to health and safety issues. Provide opportunities for Youth and Staff to learn and develop in spirit, mind and body. Consistently representing YMCA's values and mission, encourage a healthy lifestyle, and participation in other YMCA activities.

What You'll Need



Minimum 18+ years of age High School Diploma or equivalent is an asset Previous Youth work/mentorship or related experience Leadership and Mentorship experience and skills. Complete additional training within 3 months of hire Certifications: Standard First Aid & CPR-C Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable sector check Skateboarding and or scooter skills and experience coaching skill development to novice park users. Basic understanding of positive skatepark culture Conflict management skills
