Position Summary

Raincity Industrial is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented and proactive Site Superintendent. The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all on-site operations to ensure our industrial projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. This role involves coordinating subcontractors, managing schedules, enforcing quality standards, and maintaining compliance with safety regulations. The Superintendent serves as the primary point of contact on-site, ensuring effective communication between project managers, trades, and clients. Key responsibilities include upholding the highest standards of the Health & Safety program, monitoring progress, resolving issues promptly, and maintaining accurate documentation to support project goals.

Key Responsibilities

SAFETY

Serve as the primary point of contact for any accident (minor or major).

Conduct investigations for accidents, with assistance from the Chief Safety Officer (CSO).

Ensure investigations are vetted by the Safety Coordinator and Project Manager (PM).

Notify PM and VP of Construction for medical aid incidents, major accidents, and incidents involving external parties such as utilities or municipalities.

Monitor all subcontractors for safety compliance.

Coordinate One Calls with CSO, ensuring all areas are covered and reviewed.

Ensure Notices of Project (NOPs) are readily available and accessible for WorkSafeBC (WCB) on site.

Ensure crew members are properly equipped to follow RCI's safe work procedures.

Uphold the highest standards of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) program.

Verify safety paperwork totals submitted weekly.

Conduct weekly site inspection.

Ensure setup of pre-job safety board, ensure proper manuals and binders (e.g., OHS, WHMIS) are available on-site, such as in the site office or company vehicles.

AP/AR & TIME

Serve as the primary point of contact for any accident (minor or major).

Conduct monthly reviews with the PM for job costing, billing, and scheduling, scheduled during the last week of the month as set at the preconstruction meeting.

Submit clear and concise quantities to the PM weekly, or sooner if feasible.

Report new extra work to general site superintendent, VP of construction and the PM including budget details.

Submit Extra Work Order (EWO) paperwork and supporting documentation to the PM weekly.

SCHEDULING

Develop the project schedule with the PM at the project's outset.

Manage short-term scheduling with the PM via weekly email or phone updates.

Update the working schedule weekly, ensuring it is available on the shared drive by beginning of each week.

JOB START-UP AND CLOSEOUT

Review contract and handover documentation at least one week prior to the handover meeting, or earlier if time permits.

Review the contract with the Project Manager and General Superintendent before job start, if possible.

Review scheduling with the Project Manager and/or General Superintendent prior to job start.

Conduct job handover with the project team, reviewing all documents per the handover checklist.

Ensure job scope completion and notify the PM of substantial completion.

Review as-built drawings, testing, and documentation per contract requirements, addressing any non-conformances.

Maintain a spreadsheet for the closeout meeting, documenting the "Good, Bad, and Better." (lessons learned)

Complete the closeout checklist.

Review purchase orders and material takeoffs, assuming estimating has finalized subcontractors, suppliers, and pricing at handover.

DAY-TO-DAY

Identify potential cost advantages or disadvantages for the project and discuss with the PM or Estimating team as needed.

Maintain a minimum on-site presence of 8 hours per day to oversee operations, ensure project progress, and address any issues promptly.

Coordinate and manage multiple site projects based on workload.

Provide job updates, progress reports, or discrepancies to the Project Manager.

Conduct daily site visits to communicate with crew members, prevent miscommunication, and resolve issues.

Communicate project changes to the project team as they arise.

Provide subcontractors with construction and material specifications.

Oversee and enforce quality control standards.

Schedule and coordinate subcontractors.

Ensure projects meet goals, schedules, and production targets as outlined in the estimate.

Ensure efficient use of resources and subcontractors.

Communicate with the PM to ensure awareness of job status, issues, or extra work.

Track remaining work on projects.

Resolve field issues with subcontractors, engineers and clients.

Schedule equipment moves, providing necessary documentation and purchase order numbers to relevant parties.

Direct and manage supporting staff workloads, including training, mentoring, and site leadership.

Manage changes in project scope to ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.

Track all site activities to ensure tasks are quantified and reviewed by clients or consultants.

Maintain and strengthen client relationships on-site.

Manage all quality control (QC) aspects, submitting required documentation prior to key project stages and hold points (e.g., gravel density signoff, concrete testing, engineer reviews).

Verify craftsmanship of all tasks performed by employees and subcontractors.

Report to peers to facilitate smooth transitions of crews and equipment.

Administer subcontracts, purchase orders, and other site agreements.

Maintain and comply with site permits, NOPs, One Calls, etc.

Coordinate and manage required site inspections.

Ensure equipment is properly maintained and cared for.

Verify the validity of Operator Driver's Licenses (ODLs).

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (required)

Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)

5+ years of experience in construction supervision, with at least 2 years in industrial or heavy construction environments

Proven track record of managing large-scale projects from start to finish

First Aid/CPR certification (Level 2)

WHMIS and other site-specific safety training

Additional industrial safety certifications (e.g., confined space, lockout/tagout) (preferred)

Strong understanding of industrial construction methods, materials, and equipment

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications

Familiarity with project management software and scheduling tools

Leadership and team management

Strong communication and problem-solving abilities

Knowledge of regulatory compliance and environmental standards

Ability to enforce safety protocols and maintain a zero-incident culture

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
