Position Overview
The
Site Manager/Carpenter
plays a dual role as the
lead carpenter on-site
and the
site manager responsible for coordination
with the management team, head office, and factory. This position combines technical carpentry expertise with project oversight, ensuring that projects are executed to spec, on time, on budget, and with the highest standards of quality and safety.
The successful candidate will lead on-site assembly of prefabricated systems, manage trade crews, oversee schedules and budgets, and act as the primary on-site liaison for the management team. This is a leadership position that blends hands-on work with strategic site coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Carpentry & Site Work
Lead the installation and assembly of pre-fabricated wall, floor, and roof panels.
Perform advanced carpentry tasks including framing, sheathing, finishing, and trim work.
Oversee demolition and renovation tasks, ensuring safe handling and quality execution.
Ensure all work complies with building codes, safety protocols, and company standards.
Site Management & Coordination
Act as the
on-site manager
coordinating with the Project Director, head office, and factory teams.
Oversee site schedules, budgets, and project plans, ensuring alignment with drawings and client specifications.
Coordinate internal trades, subcontractors, and suppliers to meet project milestones.
Track and report on project progress, metrics, and performance (estimated vs. actual costs and timelines).
Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and quality control checks.
Lead or contribute to project meetings, ensuring issues are identified and resolved promptly.
Leadership & Team Development
Train, mentor, and supervise carpentry and site crew members.
Assign tasks based on skills and monitor productivity and craftsmanship.
Foster a safe, professional, and team-oriented work environment.
Act as the point of contact between carpentry crews, trades, management, and clients.
Collaboration & Innovation
Provide feedback on design, constructability, and efficiency of panelized systems.
Contribute to workflow improvements in both factory and site operations.
Support the development of innovative building techniques that improve cost-effectiveness and quality.
Qualifications
Red Seal Certificate in Carpentry (required).
5+ years of carpentry experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
5-10 years of project management or site supervision experience in residential, modular, or commercial construction an asset
Strong understanding of estimating, cost tracking, and construction budgeting.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineered drawings, and technical documents.
Familiarity with modular/panelized construction systems is a strong asset.
Proficient in project management software (Excel, MS Project, Procore, etc.).
Valid driver's license with flexibility to travel to multiple job sites.
Skills & Abilities
Advanced carpentry and technical construction expertise.
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and team management skills.
Effective communication across site teams, management, and clients.
Ability to balance hands-on site work with project oversight and coordination.
Physical stamina for on-site construction tasks.
