Primary Purpose





The Simulation Operations Specialist supports simulation-based education at the Clinical Learning Resource Centre (CLRC), utilizing advanced technologies such as human patient simulators, audiovisual systems, and multimedia tools. This role fosters innovation in simulation and contributes to the development of immersive learning experiences for health sciences students.


Nature of Work





Reporting to the Manager of the CLRC, the Simulation Operations Specialist collaborates with faculty, staff, and simulation team members to ensure the effective operation of simulation suites. Key responsibilities include equipment setup and maintenance, scenario programming, technical support, and active participation in simulation sessions. The role requires adaptability, physical activity, and occasional evening or weekend availability.


Typical Duties and Accountabilities




Simulation Technology & Operations




Operate and maintain simulation equipment (manikins, task trainers, AV systems) Troubleshoot hardware and software issues; support IT integration Set up and clean simulation labs before and after sessions Support videoconferencing, streaming, and data collection

Educational Support




Collaborate with faculty to align simulation scenarios with curricular objectives Provide technical expertise during simulation sessions and debriefings Lead simulation room briefings and orientations Operate simulation technology during sessions Train faculty and staff on simulators, task trainers, and related technologies

Project Coordination & Strategic Development




Lead special projects related to simulation technology and innovation Maintain inventory; manage equipment repairs and warranties Contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives Oversee project documentation, linen supply, and consumable ordering

Simulated Patient Program Support




Support training and evaluation of Standardized Patients (SPs) and Simulated Healthcare Providers (HPs) in collaboration with the Simulated Patient Education team Ensure fidelity and safety in simulation scenarios involving SPs and HPs

Professional Role Development




Promote simulation principles and best practices Mentor new simulation staff and contribute to policy and procedure development Stay current with national and international simulation trends; participate in professional development

Qualifications




Education





Post-secondary degree in a health-related field or computer science. Certification/licensure in a health profession (e.g., nurse, paramedic, RT) is an asset. CHSOS or CHSES certification is preferred.


Experience





2-5 years of experience in healthcare or simulation operations. Demonstrated experience with simulation equipment, audiovisual systems, and educational technologies is required.


Skills





Strong technical troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. High attention to standardization, quality control, and confidentiality. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and simulation software platforms.
