The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team facilitates and advances person-centered care through evidence-based professional practice and learning strategies and programs that are designed provincially and implemented locally to enhance collaborative learning and practice. The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Zonal Director, Interprofessional Practice & Learning (IPP&L), the Simulation Transport Van Driver is the primary driver responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle (20-22-foot vans) and loads. They also provide a key function for operations in terms of vehicle routine maintenance, cleaning, and any supply or equipment loading and unloading. The Simulation Transport Van Driver is part of a diverse team within Interprofessional Practice & Learning (IPP&L).

The Simulation Transport Van Driver must independently monitor and follow clinic schedule and daily work assignments, sometimes under short notice. Work locations are indoors, outdoors and in transit. Customer service is a large part of the Transport Unit Van Driver\'s daily duties, they must be able to communicate effectively with their team, and partners. The Transport Van Driver must constantly monitor their vehicles and equipment. They may deal with heavy traffic, congested streets, adverse weather, and long driving distances and may travel to more than one location per shift. The Driver must be alert and manage their personal well-being to ensure safe travel.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Completion of grade 12/GED or equivalent required
  • Valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver\'s license required
  • A minimum of ten years driving experience with a clean driving abstract within the past five years required
  • One year experience in a service occupation dealing directly with customers required
  • Completion of a defensive driving course is an asset
  • Trained in \xe2\x80\x9cTransportation of Dangerous Goods by Ground\xe2\x80\x9d an asset
  • Driving experience in a transit position is an asset
  • Previous experience with the operation and maintenance of similar vehicles, customer service and stock/supply maintenance an asset
  • Familiarity with vehicles used and their operation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent accountability
  • Must be able to exercise sound judgement and care, with priorities being safety, courtesy, and common driving sense
  • Ability to attend work on a regular and reliable basis
  • Must be able to work in an environment that is at times, adverse and may be exposed to prevailing weather conditions and congested traffic
  • Ability to work independently and function as part of a team
  • Must be customer-focused and comfortable with priority populations
  • Ability to work in a constantly changing environment, which includes receiving work assignments at short notice within a variety of settings
About You Continued

Applicant must be willing to participate in and obtain certification in the following once hired:
  • Basic training/orientation regarding safe operation of vehicles, including wheelchair lift
  • Training/Orientation to clinic, supply operation of vehicles, and vehicle-specific processes
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) - training provided if not already certified
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods by ground - training provided if not already certified
  • First Aid and CPR - training provided if not already certified

Constituent Union

The Transport Van Driver positions belong to NSGEU, CUPE, and Unifor, and the constituent union will be based on your current location within the province.

Salary Information

$21.32 - $23.25 hourly
$41,575 - $45,342 annually
