Signals and Communication TechnicianJob SummaryThe Signals and Communication (S&C) Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, replacing, and repairing railway signals and communications equipment. The incumbent troubleshoots to analyze, isolate, and resolve any malfunctions.Major Responsibilitiesxc2xb7 Use digital and analog multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and common electronic test instrument for the installation, maintenance, and diagnosis of equipment problems and failuresxc2xb7 Troubleshoot Signals and Communications (S&C) equipment to circuit board levelxc2xb7 Facilitate repair and return defective circuit cards and components through equipment vendorsxc2xb7 Use computers for diagnostics in troubleshooting electronic equipment, software burning, software uploading and downloading, downloading event logs, and other functionsxc2xb7 Test, inspect, and make necessary equipment repairs as per S&C and industry standardxc2xb7 Handle and document applicable CN tests and inspection reportsxc2xb7 Provide field and technical support as required in managed corporate data networks and in other S&C maintenance territoriesxc2xb7 Acquire, apply, and comply with Railway Operating Rules, Safety Rules and Policies, S&C requirements and code of practicesxc2xb7 Become familiar with S&C circuit drawings and standardsWorking Conditionsxc2xb7 Must be able to work in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather conditionsxc2xb7 Must be available to work night shifts and weekends when necessaryxc2xb7 Must be available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidencesxc2xb7 Must be available to travel frequently (60 to 70%) alone without advance notice, which includes overnight stay often in remote and isolated areasxc2xb7 Must meet all medical fitness in order to work at heights on ladders and around heavy moving equipmentxc2xb7 Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labour, including long-distance driving, lift, carry, push, and pull at least 50 poundsxc2xb7 Must be able to bend, stoop, and stand as well as climb vertical ladders, stairs, ramps, board and alight track equipmentxc2xb7 Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces such as rocks for extended periods of time and for long distances, reach above shoulders, sit occasionally for long periods, occasional scaffolding and exposures to dust, fumes, and gassesxc2xb7 Must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stressRequirementsxc2xb7 Previous railroad experience*xc2xb7 Experience in performing labor in an outdoor work environmentxc2xb7 Technician or Technologist Diploma in Communications or Electronics from a recognized technical collegexc2xb7 Must have a valid Driver's Licensexc2xb7 Applies critical thinkingxc2xb7 Communicates with impactxc2xb7 Solves problems to create valuexc2xb7 Identifies potential safety and security risksxc2xb7 Considers ESG principles in all operationsxc2xb7 Collaborates with others and shares informationxc2xb7 Demonstrates agility and drives changexc2xb7 Fluent in English and French, written and verbalxc2xb7 Ability to follow instructions and regulationsxc2xb7 Must be able to complete a pre-employment medical that includes a physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug audit assessmentxc2xb7 Must successfully complete criminal history check, reference check, education and Driver's License verification*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an assetTrainingThe incumbent would need to attend and pass (80% or higher) all 4 levels of the Apprenticeship Training Program (ATP).This position is a unionized position.
