X-Rail is a company that specializes in railway signaling. We take care of the installation, maintenance, and design of systems such as automatic signaling devices at level crossings, wayside inspection systems (hot box, dragging detectors, etc.), centralized traffic control systems (CTC), and electric and hydraulic switches. As a Railway Signal Relief Maintainer, you play a key role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of railway operations. In this position, you will support both maintenance and installation crews, reporting to the Signal Maintenance Supervisor and the Signal Installation Supervisor. This dual role allows you to apply your expertise in mechanical systems, electrical work, and industrial maintenance to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain railway signaling equipment.
You will also install and assemble railway signaling equipment, including signals, switches, relays, and track circuits, according to engineering drawings and specifications. Your advanced skills with programmable logic controllers and experience as an industrial electrician will further enhance your effectiveness. This role requires collaboration with team members and stakeholders to ensure reliable and safe railway operations.
Main Responsibilities
Install and assemble railway signaling equipment, including signals, switches, relays, and track circuits, according to engineering drawings and specifications.
Test and verify the proper operation of signals & communications systems and equipment.
Investigate and locate problems or failures and take appropriate corrective action (including on-call response).
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure equipment operates reliably at all times.
Operate on-track and highway vehicles safely.
Ensure all work is documented accurately and in compliance with railway standards and safety regulations.
Collaborate with team members, contractors, and other stakeholders to complete projects efficiently.
Follow all safety procedures and work practices, including working at heights and near live tracks.
Requirements
Ability to work autonomously and proactively.
Railway signaling training certificate (asset).
Railway CROR certification (asset).
Post-secondary education in electromechanical or auto mechanics (asset).
Ability to work at heights.
Ability to work in a team.
Ability to understand and interpret technical information.
Strong work ethic and ability to work safely.
Ability to perform a wide range of physical tasks (including lifting and/or moving up to 60 lbs).
Valid class 5 driver's license (class 3 and/or 1 is an asset).
Availability to work different shifts, including weekends and nights.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
Willingness to travel to remote work sites if necessary.
Successful completion of eRailSafe Canada compliance check.
Ability to follow various required training courses.
Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
Proficiency in French, both spoken and written (asset).

Variable, flexible scheduling may be available through local agreements.
8-hour daytime shifts, Monday to Friday, with on-call rotation during nights and weekends.
10-hour shifts (4/3 or 8/6 cycles)
