NVIT anticipates the need for one full-time term Short-Order Cook/Prep Assistant to assist the Cafeteria Coordinator at the Merritt campus and invites applications from qualified individuals. This term position will commence as soon as the suitable candidate is avaliable, and end April 2026.

Job Summary:

As directed by the Culinary Instructor and Cafeteria Coordinator the duties and responsibilities are, but not limited to, the cooking and preparation of the cafeteria/catering menu, cafeteria sales, float/cash out duties, dishwashing, and general cleaning of the cafeteria kitchen and seating areas.



The successful candidate will work to maintain a positive environment, be punctual and prepared to work with customers in a professional manner.


High school diploma. Valid Food Safe Certificate. A minimum of one years' relevant cooking experience. A minimum of one years' experience in food production. A basic understanding of sales experience including cash handling, Interact, credit card payments and cash-outs. Training will be provided for the successful candidate. Proven ability to communicate courteously and effectively in person, in writing and over the telephone. Proven ability to provide a positive customer service experience when under pressure, to work with minimal supervision, and to be organized and flexible; and * Must have a demonstrated ability to work with Indigenous people and an understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing.
