We are looking for a hands-on Project Manager with a strong mechanical background who is comfortable on the shop floor and in the field, not just behind a desk.
This role bridges the gap between engineering, customers, and the shop floor. The successful candidate will help to plan and coordinate daily work, solve real production problems, and step in to complete critical hands-on tasks when timing, quality, or complexity demands it.
This is not a paperwork-only PM role. You must be mechanically capable and willing to work alongside the team.
POSITION OVERVIEW and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project & Shop Coordination
Work with engineering to review drawings, scopes, and job requirements
Plan and help coordinate daily and weekly shop tasks
Act as a point of contact between customers, engineering, and shop personnel
Identify potential issues early and adjust plans to keep work moving
Hands-On Mechanical Support
Perform machining, fabrication, and millwrighting work as required
Step in on critical-path tasks to maintain schedules
Assist with troubleshooting and fit-up during builds and installations
Support on-site service and installation work when needed
Process Improvement
Identify recurring shop floor issues and inefficiencies
Develop and implement practical process improvements
Help standardize repeat work, tooling, and procedures
Support continuous improvement initiatives
Leadership & Communication
Support shop floor employees with clear priorities and expectations
Help reduce rework, confusion, and downtime through better planning
Communicate job status clearly to management and customers
Required Experience & Skills (Must Have)
Proven hands-on experience.
Machining (manual and/or CNC)
Fabrication / welding
Millwrighting / mechanical assembly
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings,
SolidWorks or fusion 360 experience
Understanding of materials, tolerances, and mechanical assemblies
Experience working in a custom or job-shop environment
Lean manufacturing training
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
Ideal Candidate (Nice to Have)
Experience with custom equipment, conveyors, or industrial machinery
Exposure to job costing, estimating, or quoting
Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement
Comfortable working with engineers and non-engineers alike
