Collaborate with the Equipment/Fleet Manager and other departments to minimize
equipment downtime and align maintenance schedules with operational needs.
Oversee troubleshooting of complex mechanical issues, provide hands-on guidance,
and ensure timely resolution of breakdowns.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and records in the fleet
management software; ensure full compliance with safety regulations, DOT standards,
and company policies.
Monitor and control repair and maintenance costs, identifying opportunities for savings
while maintaining quality.
Manage external repair coordination when in-house capacity is exceeded or
specialized work is required.
Enforce a clean, safe, and organized shop environment, including proper tool storage,
hazard identification, and adherence to safety protocols.
Conduct regular inspections of repaired equipment and attachments for quality
assurance before release to field crews.
Provide training and feedback to mechanics on best practices, new equipment, and
safety procedures.
Occasionally assist with equipment transportation, delivery, or on-site support as
needed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
This role is essential to keeping the company's large and diverse fleet operational, reducing
costly downtime, and supporting overall business efficiency. The ideal candidate is a hands-on
leader who thrives in a dynamic shop setting and is committed to safety, quality, and team
success.
Proven experience as a heavy equipment or automotive mechanic, with at least 3-5
years in a supervisory or lead role, preferably in landscaping, construction, or related
industries.
Strong technical knowledge of small engine repair, diesel/gas engines, hydraulics,
vehicle maintenance, and mechanical troubleshooting for a mixed fleet (trucks, skid
steers, excavators, loaders, trailers, and powered tools).
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced shop environment.
Excellent organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with mechanics, field
crews, and management.
Proficiency with maintenance management software (e.g., Fleetio, UpKeep) or quick
ability to learn new systems.
Solid understanding of safety regulations, OSHA/DOT compliance, and shop best
practices.
Valid driver's license (clean record preferred) and reliable transportation.
Ability to work independently while fostering teamwork.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift heavy tools, parts, and equipment (up to 75 lbs).
Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
Capability to work in varying weather conditions and shop environments (noise,
fumes, outdoor exposure).
