Job Summary

The Shop Foreman / Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and

efficient operation of the company's mechanical repair and maintenance activities. This

hands-on supervisory role ensures all landscaping vehicles, heavy equipment (skid steers,

excavators, loaders, trucks), and smaller powered tools (blowers, sweepers, attachments) are

maintained in optimal condition with minimal downtime. The Foreman works closely with the

mechanics team, sets repair priorities, enforces safety and quality standards, and supports

proactive preventive maintenance to control costs and extend asset life.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Lead, supervise, schedule, and mentor a team of 6-8 mechanics, ensuring daily tasks

are completed efficiently, safely, and to high standards.

Coordinate and prioritize routine preventive maintenance, repairs, and seasonal

preparation (e.g., plow edges, sweeper wafer changes, snow equipment setup) across

two shops with limited repair bays.

Collaborate with the Equipment/Fleet Manager and other departments to minimize

equipment downtime and align maintenance schedules with operational needs.

Oversee troubleshooting of complex mechanical issues, provide hands-on guidance,

and ensure timely resolution of breakdowns.

Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and records in the fleet

management software; ensure full compliance with safety regulations, DOT standards,

and company policies.

Monitor and control repair and maintenance costs, identifying opportunities for savings

while maintaining quality.

Manage external repair coordination when in-house capacity is exceeded or

specialized work is required.

Enforce a clean, safe, and organized shop environment, including proper tool storage,

hazard identification, and adherence to safety protocols.

Conduct regular inspections of repaired equipment and attachments for quality

assurance before release to field crews.

Provide training and feedback to mechanics on best practices, new equipment, and

safety procedures.

Occasionally assist with equipment transportation, delivery, or on-site support as

needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

This role is essential to keeping the company's large and diverse fleet operational, reducing

costly downtime, and supporting overall business efficiency. The ideal candidate is a hands-on

leader who thrives in a dynamic shop setting and is committed to safety, quality, and team

success.

Proven experience as a heavy equipment or automotive mechanic, with at least 3-5

years in a supervisory or lead role, preferably in landscaping, construction, or related

industries.

Strong technical knowledge of small engine repair, diesel/gas engines, hydraulics,

vehicle maintenance, and mechanical troubleshooting for a mixed fleet (trucks, skid

steers, excavators, loaders, trailers, and powered tools).

Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced shop environment. Excellent organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with mechanics, field

crews, and management.

Proficiency with maintenance management software (e.g., Fleetio, UpKeep) or quick

ability to learn new systems.

Solid understanding of safety regulations, OSHA/DOT compliance, and shop best

practices.

Valid driver's license (clean record preferred) and reliable transportation. Ability to work independently while fostering teamwork.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift heavy tools, parts, and equipment (up to 75 lbs). Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces. Capability to work in varying weather conditions and shop environments (noise,
