Job Description

RAS is looking for an experienced Shipper/Receiver to assist in Product & Lumber management is our Wood-Frame Production setting.


The Shipper/Receiver - Lumber Management is responsible for managing the inbound and outbound movement of lumber and related materials used in the prefab manufacturing process. This role includes receiving, inspecting, organizing, and shipping lumber to ensure that production has the necessary materials to meet project timelines. The Shipper/Receiver will also maintain inventory records, ensure the safe handling of materials, and collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations.

Key Responsibilities:



Shipping and Dispatch:

+ Prepare lumber and materials for shipment, ensuring that all products are packaged and labeled accurately according to delivery instructions.
+ Coordinate with logistics or trucking companies to schedule and dispatch shipments to job sites or other facilities.
+ Ensure that all shipping documents (e.g., delivery receipts, bills of lading) are completed and filed appropriately.

Inventory Management:

+ Maintain accurate records of lumber and materials inventory, updating stock levels in the inventory management system as items are received or shipped.
+ Conduct periodic inventory counts and reconcile physical stock with system records to ensure inventory accuracy.
+ Alert the purchasing department of any material shortages or overstock and help identify any inventory trends that could affect production.

Material Handling and Storage:

+ Safely load and unload lumber and materials from delivery trucks and move them within the warehouse.
+ Ensure proper storage practices for lumber to prevent damage, warping, or exposure to environmental conditions that could degrade material quality.
+ Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to transport materials safely.

Receiving Lumber and Materials:

+ - Receive shipments of lumber and materials, verify accuracy of delivered items against purchase orders or packing lists, and inspect materials for quality and damage.
- Ensure lumber is properly stored and organized in the warehouse, keeping it easily accessible for production teams.
- Record and report any discrepancies or damages in shipments to the purchasing department or supplier.

Quality Control and Inspection:

+ Inspect incoming lumber and materials for defects or damage and document any issues for further action.
+ Work with the production team to ensure the lumber and materials meet the necessary specifications for prefab manufacturing.

Safety Compliance:

+ Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures when handling lumber and materials.
+ Maintain a clean and organized work environment to prevent accidents and injuries.
+ Follow all regulatory guidelines for proper material handling and equipment operation.

Collaboration:

+ Work closely with the production team, purchasing, and logistics departments to ensure timely delivery of materials to meet project timelines.
+ Communicate effectively with team members and management to resolve any issues related to lumber handling or inventory management.

Documentation and Reporting:

+ Keep accurate records of material receipts, shipments, inventory movements, and any incidents or discrepancies in the handling of materials.
+ Provide regular reports on inventory levels, stock movements, and any material shortages or issues.

Qualifications and Skills:



Experience:

Minimum 2 years in shipping, receiving, and material management, preferably in construction, prefab manufacturing, or a related industry.

Material Handling:

Skilled in handling lumber and construction materials, with knowledge of proper storage practices and equipment (forklift, pallet jack).

Inventory Management:

Proficient in inventory tracking systems and capable of performing regular stock audits.

Technical Skills:

Strong computer skills are essential, including Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP systems is an asset.

Safety Knowledge:

Understanding of safety protocols for material handling and safe operation of equipment.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments.

Communication & Organization:

Excellent verbal communication, planning, and organizational skills; able to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.

Additional Assets:

Forklift certification, lumber yard experience, and trucking industry knowledge are preferred.

Personal Attributes:

Self-motivated, energetic, punctual, reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with a positive attitude.

Additional Requirements:



Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain) is required. Ability to work in a warehouse or outdoor environment in varying weather conditions. Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, to meet production deadlines.


Crew housing not available - must be local.
