POSITION OVERVIEW
The Shipper/Receiver role is essential within the logistics and warehouse operations of a company, especially in industries dealing with perishable goods like eggs. This position requires individuals who are not only experienced in working within team environments but also capable of performing tasks independently. Prior experience with mobile equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks, alongside a solid background in warehouse operations including storage, rotation of supplies, and order picking, is crucial. Knowledge about the variety of eggs, including specialty types, underscores the importance of product awareness in this role. The role demands a hands-on approach to support the team, enforce safety and quality standards, and drive productivity improvements.
EXPERIENCE
Shipper/Receivers must have prior general experience working successfully in both a team environment and on their own.
Must have prior experience with mobile equipment (forklift and pallet jack).
Must have at least one year's previous warehouse experience in storage and rotation of supplies, order picking and flow of production.
Good knowledge of all types of eggs, including the many different varieties of specialty eggs.
EDUCATION AND SKILLS
Able to read, write and speak English and basic math skills. Grade 12 education would be preferred.
Shipper/Receivers must be mature enough to prioritize and organize their work on t heir own as well as operate mobile equipment (forklifts and ride-on pallet jacks) safely and proficiently.
Able to adapt to changes and open to learning new ways to get things done more efficiently and effectively.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment, thinking and reacting quickly, and making fast yet accurate decisions.
Equipment Operator's Certification to operate the forklift and pallet jack, or the ability to obtain certifications.
To become competent in this position, approximately three weeks of on-the-job training would be required to learn the basic requirements of the job, as well as additional working experience learning all aspects of this job.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Strong organizational skills are required, as is the ability to set work priorities and work independently.
Must be able to communicate and work well with others as part of a team, demonstrating politeness, respect, and courtesy in communication and daily interactions.
Must be able to provide clear, concise general instructions for team effectiveness and productivity, as well as take direction from other employees.
Ability to work independently with little supervision is required.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Routine decision making which generally follows set standards and procedures.
Problem solving includes dealing with such issues as shortage of eggs (particularly during holiday times) and determining which order is a priority.
Problem solving is based on both individual judgement and work experience. Many decisions are made independently by the Shipper, but some require the assistance of the Shipping Supervisor to resolve.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS ANALYSIS
a) Strength
Lifting: 30 - 60 lbs. Boxes, baskets, plywood, and pallets.
Pulling: 200 to 300 lb egg racks. Boxes, baskets, plywood, and pallets.
Reaching: Reaching and lifting above and below shoulders.
Balancing: While on forklift or ride-on pallet jack.
MANUAL DEXTERITY
Very good hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and balance needed to operate mobile equipment, particularly in places where space is limited.
MENTAL EFFORT
Constant mental effort and multi-tasking to keep up with the shipping demands of continuous, fast-paced production.
Concentration is required when operating equipment to ensure care and diligence when handling product and to ensure the safety of self and others.
Being able to prioritize job tasks for greatest efficiency and stay organized and in control.
Good mathematical ability and an ability to retain memorized information.
Ongoing awareness of this positions and co-worker' workloads and helping out as a team member where and when needed.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB:
Scan in at the start of your shift and out at the end of your shift.
Unload trailers safely according to Company procedures (SAPR003 Store Trailer Unloading Procedure).
Inspect all new incoming materials to ensure that they meet our Company standards. Document on receiving record.
When receiving reusable supplies from breakers (trays, dividers, plastic skids) tag supplies with red stamped tag "Not inspected" tag - place break name, date received and your name on tag - park in appropriate area assigned by Supervisor.
When receiving eggs - they should be arranged in a trailer that is of good condition and unloaded in a manner that prevents damage or contamination. Safely and efficiently unloaded, temperature taken, and placed in cooler as directed by Supervisor.
Inspect trailer for defects or possible contamination that could affect food safety, sweep trailer, and document findings on TS 003 1.
Critical Control Point - when receiving eggs on trailers - ungraded ensure they are on our Management Approved Producer List - if graded, ensure they are on the Approved Suppliers List for Canada and USA.
Utilize the relevant department monitoring records, procedures, and deviations records for the HACCP & food safety program. Ensure proper completion of such records.
Complete all required documentation.
Follow sanitation procedures for all trailers (TS 003 - daily store trailer sanitation procedures).
Accurately pick orders following Company Policy (SAPR006 - order picking policy & procedure)
Pile eggs carefully and securely to prevent damage.
Check dates frequently, ensuring that they are correct and legible. If not have corrected prior to shipping.
Pick out damaged or returned products from the supplies and place in Nest run cooler in proper location off the floor and not touching other product. Document damaged product returned on record in Nest run cooler.
Load trailers securely according to Company procedures (SAPR004 - store trailer loading procedure).
Inform Supervisor of any maintenance observations or requests.
Load Board eggs securely according to Company procedure (SAPR005 - Board Load loading procedure).
Organize stock/stock rotation. Keep area free of hazardous conditions (housekeeping).
