  • $500 after completion of the Probationary Period (90 working days)
  • $500 after One Year of continuous employment (365 days)
Location 2729 48th Ave SE Calgary, AB (Industrial Foothills off Peigan Trail) Hourly Wage The position rate of pay is $26.56 per hour, and requires shift rotation. Position Summary This is a manual and semi-skilled equipment operation position that works actively in the yard overseeing effectiveness and orderliness of raw inventory, finished goods, yard equipment, cleanliness, snow removal, and disposal of garbage and scrap. Work of this class involves responsibility for the maintenance of storage yard and all inventory including such duties as loading or unloading of raw rod, finished goods (mesh product), equipment, and disposal bins materials. The Yardman is required to work autonomously and to use experienced judgement in applying yard orderliness. Work is reviewed through frequent inspections of inventory and yard conditions by the Shift Supervisor. Responsibilities
  • Responsible for organizing raw rod material, and finished goods in a manner that is well organized, safely secured and stored, grouped together and spacious.
  • Maintains finished goods of specific order in specific area versus \xe2\x80\x98all over the yard\xe2\x80\x99.
  • Stacks material of finished goods to avoid any leaning and allowing space for visual inspection.
  • The ability to operate a forklift effectively in a safe and efficient manner.
  • To receive rod by heat number and print tags by heat numbers, and move it to the appropriate inventory storage location in the yard.
  • To transfer rod / finished goods between the different inventory locations as required.
  • To keep inventory of WIP, finished goods and raw material in the yard and report it as required.
  • To ensure yard consumables are adequately stocked for upcoming work (e.g. dunnage, banding, straps).
  • To reorganize rod and finished goods in the rod yard as required.
  • Coordinate work, assists and communicates with Shipping Lead Hand, Shift Supervisor, Shipping & Receiving Clerk and Materials Handler.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.
  • Keeps scrap and disposal bins in orderly condition.
  • Salvages scrap mesh for higher resale value.
  • Supports production for delivery of material to specific workstations when required.
  • Manages disposal of garbage and scrap iron to the bin including within the factory.
  • Checks yard buildings\' fences, gates, outside lighting, drainage; reports any irregularities to the Shift Supervisor with a recommended course of action.
  • Operates forklift with lift bars and snow shovel.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and orderliness of the entire yard.
  • Checks all raw and finished goods inventory to ensure it is tagged with proper identification.
  • During winter the Yardman shall operate snow shovel with aid of forklift, manually remove snow and salting of ice at doorways and bay doors.
  • Keeps yard premises locked and secured as required.
  • Act in a professional manner with truck drivers and other visitors.
  • Inspect quality of product before shipping.
Professional Requirements and Qualifications
  • Practice health and safety.
  • Manage the flow of materials in yard
  • Knowledge of storekeeping practices and procedures applicable to storage yard operations.
  • Knowledge of forklift operation and loading / lifting techniques including using liftbar.
  • Knowledge of the care and safe operation of assigned loading equipment.
  • Must be able to load material onto a flatbed truck and offload material off a flatbed truck.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain simple records.
  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the work.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
  • Ensure the facilities, inventory, finished goods and outside equipment are well cared for.
  • Wear proper PPE including safety glasses and steel-toed safety boots with non-slip sole.
