Shipper/ Receiver Assistant

Prairie West Ice Cream is a Manitoba family-owned and operated business dedicated to producing high-quality ice cream products. Our plant is currently CFIA, BRC, and Peanut-free certified. Our plant produces several brands of ice cream in a variety of container sizes and is increasing our portfolio each year with new products and clients. Committed to excellence, we take pride in our premium products and are looking for dedicated, reliable, and detail-oriented individuals to join our team. The successful candidate would require demonstrated warehouse experience as well as the proficiency in cross-functional collaboration.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist with verifying the incoming loads and documentation with the Shipper. Ensure storage of ingredients at food-safe temperatures and adhering to allergen controls. Check inbound shipments against packing skips and report any discrepancies. Load and unload shipments from trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, and safe lifting techniques. Assist with entering data into tracking system for inventory received and shipped. Assist in tracking inventory levels by accurately counting and reporting the number of pallets prepared. Ensure frozen inventory is stored and shipped on a first-in, first-out (FIFO) basis. Work safely in freezer conditions (-25C) for extended periods. Inspect products for defects and damages before palletizing. Assist in picking and organizing outgoing purchase orders for customers while monitoring product temperatures during picking and staging. Arrange and stack products onto pallets according to specified patterns to ensure stability and safety during transport. Attach appropriate labels, or tags to pallets. Perform general warehouse duties and maintain cleanliness in warehouse, cooler, and freezer. Assist other departments with ingredient and packaging supply for scheduled production.

Qualifications:

Experience with food and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and have knowledge of traceability/ recall. Forklift and pallet jack experience are required. Mechanical aptitude - able to operate tools and equipment necessary in the performance of shipping/ receiving duties. Proficient in Excel, along with other computer skills (emails, Ms Word) High level of accuracy and attention to detail in operational tasks and documentation. Accountability to abide by rules and regulations. Self-motivated, organized, and able to work without supervision. Reliable, dependable, accountable, and flexible. Proficient in English language (verbal, reading, and written). Ability to lift and carry up to 50 - 70 lbs. Ability to work on feet for long periods. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work well in a team environment and possess good communication skills.
