Responsibilities:
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising the activities of Production line employees on the shift. He/ She plans, directs, and coordinates all activities relating to safety, production efficiency, and quality to achieve company objectives at the highest quality levels and lowest possible cost. He/She will be responsible for management of people, optimizing production and ensuring the preparedness of the shift including planning material availability, training, labour, and machinery.

  • Maintain highest standards of BRC, HACCP, Quality, GMP and Health & Safety standards
  • Supervise the daily activities of the shift to optimize production factors (Material, Labour, Machinery)
  • Provide information/documentation to Department Managers
  • Organize all phases of Production (Preparation, Moulding, Packaging)
  • Manage inventory, secure adequate packaging/raw materials, semi-finished goods on shift
  • Identify and propose continuous improvement initiatives, increase productivity and reduce scrap
  • Request maintenance intervention in case of facilities and/or machine breakdown and urgency
  • Verify interventions are performed in scheduled time and according to hygiene and safety standards
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to meet and exceed operational requirements
Shift Changeover
  • Ensure smooth transition and complete all shift handover responsibilities
  • Support the Line Leader and Quality Department in reporting issues through effective communication and coordination
  • Support the planning of activities on the production line, create Team oriented atmosphere
  • Participate in and support the equipment start-up of the line along with Line Leaders and Maintenance
  • Inspect the cleaning and sanitation activities of Line Leaders and Machine Operators
  • Compile and submit shift reports (manpower, downtime, hours, waste and recyclables)
  • Ensure the completion of inventory cycle counts at scheduled intervals
Food Safety & Hygiene
  • Responsible for hygiene and sanitation compliance in production area
  • Responsible for working within compliance guidelines of food safety program (BRC, HACCP, GMP)
  • Support periodic scheduling of sanitation measures to work areas and disinfect equipment and tools
  • Taste product and evaluate quality, ensure all program requirement standards regarding quality and food safety are implemented and maintained
  • Ensure safe working procedures, colour coding and good housekeeping practices are always adhered to
  • Responsible for assisting in investigation of all customer/consumer complaints involving technical, food safety or quality issues
  • Assist in maintaining BRC program by communicating areas of improvement to HACCP Team and actively participating in monthly operational and BRC meetings
  • Communicates food safety issues during production, halts production, if necessary, until issue is resolved by qualified, authorized personnel
  • Member of BRC management, HACCP, Recall, Crisis Management and site security teams
Workplace Health & Safety
  • Ensure health & safety policies and safe work habits are adhered to by all personnel and visitors
  • Manage accidents/incidents involving production employees (first aid intervention, accident reporting, accident investigation,) with the support of First Aid responders, Line Leaders and Joint Health & Safety Committee members according to company and MOL guidelines
  • Serve as a model for compliance and behavior, treats everyone with dignity, trust and respect
  • Correct unsafe acts and conditions, conducts performance appraisals for worker safety performance
  • Participate in quality and safety audits, ensure monthly safety talks are conducted
Supervise Human Resources
  • Responsible for human resource allocation on production lines, manage absenteeism and documentation of scheduled vacation and unscheduled illness to ensure proper coverage
  • Perform employee performance reviews, ensure performance targets are met and exceeded
  • Resolve personnel issues with Human Resources Department according to prescribed policy
  • Enforcement of Code of Conduct procedures to ensure all employees are treated fairly
  • Ensure training requirements are met and production employees are continuously improving
  • Perform training of Line Leaders, Machine Operators and induction of new and current employees
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3-5 years\' Supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Degree in mechanical engineering and/or diploma in food processing or equivalent experience
  • Experience within GMP regulated food & beverage, pharmaceutical or consumer packaged goods industry highly preferred
  • HACCP and BRC standard experience/certification an asset
  • Knowledge of production lines and machinery, key performance indicators, technological processes
  • Mechanical aptitude, ability to troubleshoot technological problems
  • Experience with stock management, production models and planning techniques
  • Dedication to Food Safety, Quality and Sanitation policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated problem solving, leadership and team building skills, experience with employee training, ability to lead and manage projects to completion
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to effectively interact with persons at all levels of the organization
  • Able to work overtime to support a growing operation
This full time position\'s schedule is from 11pm to 7am.
