Shift Maintenance Engineer

Job Description

Carries out all maintenance and related work orders as to the applicable code including building, equipment, fixtures and grounds keeping as per the required brand and hotel standards with occupational health and safety protocols top of mind. Work orders are completed with urgency according to the operational needs, when required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

(Including but not limited to):

Performs all assignments involving: painting, wallpapering, carpentry, drywall, hardware replacement/repair, furniture assembly, minor plumbing and minor electrical repairs when appropriate.

Maintains and repairs mechanical equipment (i.e. fans, motors, pumps, compressors and boilers) and hotel equipment (i.e. washers, dryers, ovens, mixers, floor machines).

Performs scheduled preventative maintenance work on equipment and systems by: inspecting, testing, replacing parts, adjusting, lubricating, cleaning and recording results.

Monitors and operates mechanical systems and equipment such as boilers and pressure vessels, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, electrical distribution and emergency power, refrigeration, pools, fire and safety equipment.

Maintains a high standard of workmanship: work to be carried out to all building codes and standards and WCB rulings.

Maintains current knowledge of and complies with all facility policies and procedures.

Uses all required forms/methods for proper record keeping. Follow up on all tasks or work orders assigned, so that projects are completed in a prompt and prioritized sequence.

Rectifies any safety hazards or other maintenance items promptly. Reports safety hazards or other problems to Director of Engineering & Management as appropriate.

Ensures correct and safe use of all power and hand tools.

Uses all necessary personal protective equipment when required, i.e. eyewear, gloves, masks and hearing protection.

Reports any parts and supplies required for projects or stock to Manager.

Maintains logs, files and records on all equipment.

Uses initiative for departmental efficiency and effectiveness.

Attends approved work-related conferences and seminars to promote and maintain professional development.

Security conscious in all areas of the hotel, including rights of privacy and confidentiality of the guests.

Maintains a high standard of personal hygiene, grooming and attire.

Is helpful, cordial and courteous to guests and colleagues.

Ensures a high level of cleanliness, order and safety in storage and workshop areas.

All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:



-Previous 2+ years experience in an Engineering-Maintenance Department in a hotel or a large commercial building setting with a strong aptitude and or previous experience in carpentry, painting, drywall and or plumbing.

-Flexible availability to work as business requires including shifts on weekdays, weekends, stat holidays, and various AM, Mid-day, and evenings.



-Certificates and or relevant designations in the Engineering or Maintenance fields will be considered a strong asset.

-Good communication/English skills including speaking, writing, reading.

-Must have valid pool and spa maintenance certificate.

-Previous electrical, mechanical and plumbing experience required.

-Strong communication, time management and organizational skills are essential.

-Ability to work with chemicals (WHMIS) .

-The ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

-Ability to work with minimal supervision.

-Understands that success lies in working together and enjoys being part of a team.

Pay: $27.00-$29.00 per hour
