Position Summary
We are currently seeking a
Shelter Support Worker
to join our dedicated team. This vital role supports shelter guests through compassionate care, advocacy, safety, crisis intervention, and connection to resources. You will be a key part of a 24/7 team that helps guests stabilize, plan next steps, and feel seen and supported--no matter their circumstances.
Key Responsibilities
Shelter Support & Intake:
Conduct guest intakes and provide orientation and support upon entry
Respond to crises, perform risk assessments, and offer emotional support
Support guests with goal setting, referrals, and life skills development
Provide harm reduction supplies and administer Naloxone when necessary
Cleaning & Safety:
Perform daily cleaning, laundry, and sanitation of shelter spaces
Conduct room/wellness checks and maintain a secure environment
Handle biohazard cleanups and safely manage spaces used by substance users
Record Keeping & Communication:
Maintain accurate case notes and incident reports
Track guest appointments and medication dispensing (as instructed by medical professionals)
Use Office 365 Teams for documentation and internal communication
Brief incoming shift staff to ensure safety and continuity
Collaboration & Community Engagement:
Liaise with local agencies to coordinate care
Attend team meetings, trainings, and participate in ongoing professional development
What you bring:
Diploma in a related Human or Social Services field (or equivalent combination of education/experience)
At least 1 year of related experience working with vulnerable populations
Strong communication, de-escalation, and crisis management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team across multiple shifts
Deep understanding of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and culturally safe practices
Excellent organizational, documentation, and boundary-setting abilities
Required Training or Willingness to Obtain:
