Job Description

UPEI is seeking interested individuals to represent the University as the Program Director for Shad Canada's UPEI Campus starting in 2026. Funded by Shad Canada, the Program Director (PD) is responsible for the safe and effective day-to-day operation of their university-based campus program, including the health and well-being of approximately 64-80 participants and contracted program team members. Responsibilities include the recruitment, hiring, and training of team members, securing campus facilities and faculty presenters, development of curricula and activities that deliver on Shad's intended impacts, supervision and management of participant/team member conduct and crisis intervention, mitigating risk factors, and overseeing program expenditures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:




Program Development

Design, develop and implement a comprehensive program at UPEI delivering on Shad Canada's intended impacts to grade 10 and 11 students Uphold Shad Canada's mission, values, codes of conduct, and risk management policies and procedures Recruit Faculty, community leaders, lab instructors, and guest speakers to present during the program Serve as a Faculty member and assume the responsibilities of same

Program LeadershipRecruit, contract and train program UPEI campus team members Supervise and manage participant and team member conduct Create schedules that ensure participants are properly supervised at all times and that programs have full support to run efficiently and effectively Call and chair daily meetings with program team members Maintain positive relationships and be a role model and coach to participants and team members

Risk Management



Responsible for the oversight and implementation of Shad Canada's risk management policies, procedures, and best practices at the program level Engage and resolve participant and/or parent issues with support and consultation from Shad Canada

Program Logistics



Arrange for appropriate university accommodation and use of facilities including classrooms, laboratories, recreation facilities, equipment, etc. Arrange field trips and supporting logistics including vetting third party vendors Implement accounting and reporting procedures required by Shad Canada, ensuring that the program operates within budget

Other Accountabilities



Complete and submit the Program Director Report, ensure that program receipts and accounting documents are submitted to the VP, Finance and Resources by requested deadline, and participate in the Shad Canada's Program Leadership Meetings (spring and fall) Complete a vulnerable sector criminal record check Assume other responsibilities as may be agreed to from time to time

An understanding of UPEI and our campus environment An enthusiasm for exciting young people about the possibilities that a post-secondary education can offer Strong communication skills
