Overview

Reporting to the Multicultural Association of Sussex, in close collaboration with the New Brunswick Multicultural Council and the schools in the Sussex region, the incumbent is responsible for the implementation and periodic review of settlement services for newcomer students and parents in the region\'s schools. This person is also responsible for facilitating and coordinating activities and events in order to promote the connection between the school, the family and the community. In addition, he/she is required to collaborate and work in partnership with established service providers in the public, private and non-profit sectors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To welcome families to the schools in the Sussex area.
  • Prepare information and orientation sessions for newcomer students and parents to inform them on topics related to the school system.
  • Facilitate communication and constructive relationships between school personnel and newcomer families.
  • Coordinate cross-cultural training for students, volunteers, and school system staff.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of cross-cultural outreach activities and promote openness to diversity in the school.
  • Participate in the development of program communication tools (website, information kit, etc.) and promote them to families.
  • Write activity reports required by funders.
  • Carry out any other mandate or related task required.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • One (1) year of post-secondary studies in a discipline related to the position.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a discipline deemed relevant to the position.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Familiarity with social media management.
  • Knowledge of public social systems including the public education system.
Aptitudes:
  • Show patience and respect for newcomers.
  • Advanced leadership, planning, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capable of partnering and working with other community organizations and immigration service providers at the local and provincial levels.
  • Able to exercise tact in communicating and negotiating with, influencing and serving internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to work both under limited supervision and as part of a team.
  • Discretion, confidentiality and compliance with the Privacy Act.
  • Flexibility and openness, ability to analyze and synthesize information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Able to make presentations, convey information, and plan and execute meetings and events.
  • Sound judgment and conflict resolution skills in an intercultural context.
  • Interest in local economic and community development and multiculturalism.
Working Hours, Compensation and Term of Position
  • 37.5 hours per week variable.
  • $39,000-$44,000/ annum ($20/hr - $22.50/hr)
  • Contract until March 31, 2024, with the possibility of extending to March 31, 2025 with further project funding.
  • Work and travel on evenings and weekends for activities across the region will sometimes be required in this position. The incumbent will have the option to manage their own schedule to meet the position requirements effectively.
  • Approved travel expenses will be reimbursed by the employer.

Requirements:
