This job posting is for an existing vacancy and is intended to fill a current position within our organization.



We are currently looking for Settlement Worker to join our team of committed professionals. This Full-Time Contract (1 Year) position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario's Elm location in Sudbury.

Under the leadership of the Program Manager, the Settlement Worker provides assistance, information referrals and short-term solution focused counseling to all newcomers in the Immigrant Services Office. This job is also responsible for empowering eligible newcomers to access information in a self-directed manner while maintaining YMCA values, as well as facilitating workshops on newcomer related topics and associated services

RATE OF PAY:

$ 49,455.04 - 52,977.47 / Yearly

HOURS:

40 Hours



Major Responsibilities

Conduct needs assessments and assist all newcomers through solution focused counselling Lead clients in the development of a settlement plan to acquire information related to Immigrant Services Facilitate appropriate referrals to community services and agencies Support clients in all stages of settling in the community Research, create, coordinate, and deliver workshops on newcomer related topics Facilitate workshops and information sessions on newcomer related topics in the community at large Maintain individual files to the standards set out by the program funders and YMCA of Northeastern Ontario

Qualifications

College diploma or University degree in Social Services, or related field Minimum of one (1) year of settlement experience or two (2) years of experience in personal counselling or community development Community development and public speaking skills Solid knowledge of community resources Knowledge of the Ministry of Education and the Education Act an asset Superior presentation/facilitation skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Bilingual in French / or other language communication skills an asset) Ability to research and develop workshops and community presentations Above average ability to communicate with newcomer youth and their families as well as deal with any issues that they may have Advanced computer skills Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
