A full time load in the Department of Wood Science is 12 credits per term. A 3 credit course is 25% of a full time work load.
Sessional lecturer for WOOD 494
The Department of Wood Science is seeking to hire a part-time sessional lecturer for 25W - Term 1 (September 1 to December 31, 2025).
The expected salary for this position is $4,000 per credit
Course to be taught:
WOOD 494 (3 credits) Principles of Wood Cutting and Tooling
Material to be specifically covered in the course, in detail, includes wood cutting fundamentals, chip formation, cutting conditions, cutting edge maintenance, sawing, planing and moulding, veneer cutting, chipping, and turning.
The successful candidate will deliver core lectures; coordinate with guest lecturers; lead laboratory sessions; supervise and mentor teaching assistant/s; provide feedback and assess student assignments; participate in and hold weekly office hours.
Qualifications:
The candidate must have a solid background in wood products processing and extensive experience in safely using the various wood cutting equipment available in the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing. Hands-on experience in machining solid wood and wood-based composites, as well as foundational knowledge in wood science is essential. The ideal candidate must have an undergraduate degree in wood products processing or similar, and completed a Ph.D. in Forestry on the topic of solid wood or wood-based composite processing.
