Course Number and Title: UNI199H1S - The Construction of Race in America: A History
Course Description: The course will explore the origins of racial categories in America. Drawing on primary sources such as memoirs, film, and government records as well as writings by scholars, we will examine how beliefs about these categories changed over time and with what consequences for the unfolding of American history. Arriving at the present day, we will consider such contradictory developments as the accelerating influence of Black Lives Matter and the headline-grabbing white nationalism on display at the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, August, 2017.

Minimum Qualifications: A Master's degree required in Social Sciences or Humanities.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. preferred. Demonstrated research and/or teaching expertise on issues relating to racial demographics in America or cognate area is required. University level teaching experience is preferred, with demonstrated evidence of superior undergraduate teaching.
Description of Duties: Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.
