Course Number and Title: STA2551HS LEC0101: Finance & Insurance Case Studies

Course Description: This graduate course takes cases from a variety of problems in the financial and insurance worlds and students will work in groups to develop both the theory and implementation of cases, write reports and deliver presentations on their findings. The course will be led by industry practitioners. Sample topics include: Solvency II, Pension Benefits Act, valuing and managing complex annuity riders.

Estimated Course Enrolment: 31 students

Estimated TA Support: 10 hours. The availability of TA support is contingent on class enrolment and class size.

Class Schedule: Thursdays 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Tutorial: N/A

Sessional Dates of Appointment: January 1, 2024 to April 30, 2024 (This course is co-taught: 0.125 FCE each)

Salary: $2,364.47 for Sessional Lecturer I
$2,482.70 for Sessional Lecturer I Long Term
$2,530.44 for Sessional Lecturer II
$2,590.69 for Sessional Lecturer III

Qualifications: Relevant background and education in the field of Actuarial Science. Currently active in the finance industry with at least five years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in finance/insurance. Prior experience teaching at the university level. Prior experience teaching STA2551 or a similar course an asset. Note: Applicants may be asked to supply references.

Description of Duties: Preparation and delivery of lectures in this course. Preparation, supervision and grading of assignments, tests, and final examinations in accordance with university regulations; reporting final grades; counseling students; supervising teaching assistant(s).
