Course: PLA1552H - Leadership & Management For Planners
Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to prepare professional planners to manage their own activities and provide leadership when operating as part of the city administration. This will be done by providing an understanding of how services and programs are established, planned and delivered by city governments and other agencies. The focus will be on providing students with practical approaches to implementing land use, environmental and other policies. Students will be introduced to the planning and management tools used to deliver the full range of programs a city must provide. The course will be delivered through readings, lectures and group discussions. Significant use will be made of case studies on city issues which students will analyze and discuss in class.

This posting is for two 0.25 FCE positions to co-teach this course.

Qualifications:
A Post Graduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning or Public Administration is required. Strong familiarity with city planning and management theory and current practice in Ontario and Canada is required. Expertise in city planning and city administration are preferred. Experience in a senior management position in both private and public settings is preferred. Familiarity with the practical aspects of implementing land use, environmental and other planning policy is preferred. University teaching experience is required.
Brief description of duties:
Preparing course outline, syllabi and lectures; developing and administering grading, course assignments, tests and exams; exam invigilation; holding regular office hours, and submitting all final grades.
