PLA 1105 H1S: Planning Decision Methods II

Course Description: Quantitative data can help illuminate planning issues. This class introduces quantitative methods with the opportunity to develop and practice the skills needed to use these methods appropriately. We cover data management and visualization, population forecasting, economic analysis, basic statistics, mapping and spatial analysis, as well as the epistemological positioning and ethics of these methods historically and today. The focus is on applying these methods critically to issues in planning.

Salary: Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.89; Sessional Lecturer I Long-term - $9,930.79; Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.76; Sessional Lecturer II Long-term - $10,326.61; Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76; Sessional Lecturer III Long-term - $10,570.01

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Geography, Planning, Urban Studies or a related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated expertise in the area of quantitative methods, in relation to planning-related research and/or practice is preferred. Ability to teach at the graduate level, in the areas of economic analysis, basic statistics, finance and budgeting, and mapping and spatial analysis, as applied to planning, is preferred.

Brief description of duties: Preparing materials for lectures and class discussions; preparing course syllabi and selecting relevant readings; developing, administering, and marking course assignments, tests and exams; test/exam invigilation; holding regular office hours; planning and supervising the work of teaching assistants.
