Further information about the Faculty of Nursing graduate programs is available .Working as a Sessional Lecturer in the Nurse Practitioner ProgramThe Graduate Office in the University of Alberta Faculty of Nursing has opportunities for teaching in the Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner program. Positions are offered by course, and seminars are offered during weekdays. Additional duties to support seminar time will be required and the successful candidate can complete those duties flexibly.A Lecturer under the Academic Teaching Staff Agreement shall be a scholar who:
  • has teaching and/or teaching-related responsibilities as their primary academic responsibility, in this case within the Nurse Practitioner program;
  • actively participates in the planning, delivery and evaluation of courses specified in a manner consistent with the curriculum and program plan established by the Faculty of Nursing Graduate Office; and
  • shall demonstrate scholarship and remain current and competent in the discipline or profession.
Additionally, all applicants to this posting must be licensed Nurse Practitioners in Alberta and able to teach seminars in person on campus.The opportunity for secondment can be discussed and considered on an individual basis.Teaching opportunities are available for the Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025 semesters.DutiesPrimary responsibility is teaching the assigned course/seminar within the Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Confirming curricular alignment - the lecturer should ensure that course objectives are aligned with the course content and delivery plan.
  • Supporting the learning and progression of students through the course by:
  • acting as the first line of support for students
  • fostering safe and supportive learning environments for all students
  • developing relationships with students in order to support learner-centered teaching approaches
  • communicating proactively and connecting students to supports as needed (Program Director, Faculty of Nursing services, staff, University resources)
  • Actively engages with the Nurse Practitioner teaching team to ensure program cohesiveness by:
  • attending Nurse Practitioner team meetings
  • coordinating with the faculty members teaching program components within the same term
  • participating in ongoing and end-of-semester course evaluation and improvement efforts, including contributing to the course and program report
QualificationsCandidates must have:
  • Current registration and in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta
  • A Master\'s Degree in Nursing
  • Active licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within Alberta
  • Three years of Nurse Practitioner experience in a Canadian jurisdiction
  • Current CPR certification.
Assets to the role are:
  • Experience in a teaching/instructional role in a post-secondary or clinical setting.
  • Facilitation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills and an ability to handle challenging student situations.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
