Course number and title: Sessional Lecturer - LHA1100H - Introduction to Adult Education

Course description:

Designed to assist students to develop an understanding of and an identity with the field of adult education. Major philosophical, historical, and conceptual bases are examined; also contemporary agencies and programs, issues, and trends in the practice of adult education.

*Please note: The delivery of this course will be Online Synchronous.

Class schedule (Lectures): Tuesday 17:30 - 20:30 - Online Synchronous

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2023 - December 31, 2023

Pay for half course, vacation pay included:

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,182.42
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $9,641.55
Sessional Lecturer II: $9,826.96
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $10,025.84
Sessional Lecturer III: $10,060.93
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $10,262.15

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:

Candidates must hold a PhD in adult education or a related field. Must have graduate teaching experience in the areas of this course topic. Demonstrated previous experience in graduate level teaching online, preferably using Blackboard or Canvas/Quercus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given for prior experience in teaching this course. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable mastery in the field of adult education.

Description of duties:

Prepare, organize, and lead this graduate half course; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; and evaluate student work and provide students with feedback in a timely manner.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
