Course number and title: CIN370H1F - Canadian Cinemas

Course description: History and diversity of Canadian and Qu\xc3\xa9b\xc3\xa9cois cinemas. Analyses of film and critical frameworks examine how co-productions, multiculturalism, and post-national arguments are re-shaping the production and reception contexts of national cinema. Annual emphasis will be placed on one of the following topics: the emergence of the feature film, Qu\xc3\xa9b\xc3\xa9cois cinema, documentary, or experimental cinema.

Class schedule: Thursday 10:00-14:00

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2023 - December 31, 2023.

Salary:

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90

Sessional Lecturer I, Long Term: $9,930.79

Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:

  • MA in Cinema/Film required; PhD in Cinema/Film strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience teaching cinema at the university level, with a concentration on film history, theory, and/or analysis
  • At least 5 years of experience marking undergraduate essays in cinema
  • Evidence of recent teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to teach online if public health issues require
Preferred qualifications:
  • A strong record of research on Canadian cinemas.
Description of duties: The Sessional Lecturer will follow the broad outline of the syllabus that has been established for the course, using any textbooks/films that may have been ordered. Revisions and/or updates to the curriculum should be discussed with the Director. They will lecture, grade assignments, hold office hours each week, and answer queries by email or appointment.
