Description:

This course gives students a foundational understanding of the novel in English. It introduces them to the history of the novel, from medieval sagas and adventure stories to modern experiments with fragmentary narratives. The course covers novels from a range of geographical places; students will be asked to consider why the novel has been so successful in the past, and what its futures might be. Students will read at least one complete novel during the course and extracts from others.

Salary

SL1 - $19,641.40 per full course = $9,820.70 SL2 - $21020.07 per full course = $10,510.03 SL2LT- $21,520.55 per full course = $10760.28 SL3LT - $22,060.71 per full course = $11,030.36

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.



Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, admin. and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising any TAs assigned to course, if applicable.



Minimum Qualifications: PHD in English with specialization in and/or experience teaching the history of the novel and narrative theory/form at the university level; strong academic record, demonstrated teaching ability, evidence of currency in subject matter.
