Course description:
Seminar course in biodiversity and conservation biology, emphasizing critical thinking and the synthesis of ideas crossing disciplinary boundaries. Group discussions among peers, facilitated by faculty, and student presentations. Discussions include critical analysis of research and review articles in the primary literature, with a focus on recent developments in biodiversity science and conservation biology. Evaluation based on presentations, participation in class discussions, and written assignments.

Salary (0.25 FCE):
$4,910.35 for Sessional Lecturer I ($5,255.02 for SLI Long Term); $5,255.02 for Sessional Lecturer II ($5,380.14 for SLII Long Term); $5,380.14 for Sessional Lecturer III ($5,515.18 for SLIII Long Term), inclusive of vacation payPlease note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of the subject area and ability in teaching the course subject at a university level. A strong background in biodiversity, conservation biology, ecology and/or evolutionary biology; PhD in biology; demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience teaching this or a similar university-level course.
Description of Duties:
Preparation and delivery of 50% of lectures and discussions; available for office hours; preparation and grading of assignments and tests, as appropriate, in accordance with University regulations as described in the Faculty of Arts & Science Academic Handbook.
