The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology invites applications for a part-time (.33FTE) Sessional Lecturer to teach the following course in Biomedical Engineering program:

BIOC 202, section 003 (3 credits course)

Introductory Medical Biochemistry
Winter 2023/2024, Term 2

January 1, 2024 to April 30, 2024

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is an Introductory Medical Biochemistry course and will cover topics such introduction to proteins and enzymes, carbohydrate metabolism, and glucose homeostasis. The course emphasis is on human biochemistry and it is designed for students going into health science fields.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, the incumbent will be responsible for:

• Preparing and developing course material for teaching BIOC 202 Winter 2023/2024, Term 2
• Teaching includes but is not limited to a range of activities including the scheduled course and undergraduate administrative duties related to the assigned course.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have:

• A PhD.
• Post-doctoral training and prior teaching experience is not required but will be considered an asset
• The incumbent will be expected to have exceptional communication skills.

Salary: Based on sessional lecturer\xe2\x80\x99s salary scale as per the UBCFA Collective Agreement.

For more than fifty years, the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has played an active and important role at UBC and in the greater scientific community. The Department is located in the Life Science Institute (LSI) that is home to approximately 90 research laboratories with 15 Departments organized into nine research clusters, fostering a strong foundation for innovation and collaborations.
