BUSI 1915U -

Fundamentals of Business Math

Lecture: Tuesday & Thursday - 3:40PM - 5:00PM


Tutorial: Thursday - 2:10PM - 3:30PM

Please note that this course will be delivered in person on Ontario Tech University's north campus in Oshawa, Ontario. Unless required for student registration purposes, the schedule is not subject to change without approval from an Associate Dean and/or the Dean.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:


The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.


This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

Qualifications

In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the

Undergraduate

level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.


Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently, and will be for the duration of the contract, legally eligible to work in Canada. Please note that this course will be delivered in-person on the Ontario Tech University's north campus in Oshawa, Ontario.


Required Education:




Candidates must meet at least one of the following requirements:

The Candidate holds a graduate degree (Masters or PhD/PhD ABD) in a STEM field; OR The Candidate holds a graduate degree (Masters or PhD/PhD ABD) in a non-STEM related field PROVIDED THAT (a) the candidate has experience teaching a mathematics course at the undergraduate university level

and

(b) the candidate submits a letter of reference from the Dean who supervised their teaching position; OR The Candidate is in the process of completing a graduate degree PROVIDED THAT (a) the candidate has experience leading tutorials and grading course work/tests for undergraduate university mathematics courses

and

(b) the candidate submits a letter of reference from the professor who supervised their work as a TA in the aforementioned course(s).

Preference will be given to Candidates with completed graduate degrees.

The Candidate must have:

Strong teaching skills, including the ability to explain complicated ideas to non-expert learners The ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that engages students effectively, taking into account a diverse and multicultural student population; The ability to communicate concepts, instructions, and directions clearly The ability to teach effectively in a context where students use laptops or tablets and modern software Responsiveness to student enquiries and the ability to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner Proficiency in using Windows, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and email Experience using a Learning Management System (especially Canvas) is an asset

Required Experience



Experience teaching mathematics at the undergraduate university level is a strong advantage. Candidates should document their experience by submitting course evaluations and/or formal peer evaluations Experience working in the field of information technology is an asset

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
