The African Studies Centre seeks a Sessional Lecturer from January 1, 2026 - April 30, 2026 to teach the following course in-person.
AFR357H1S - Lusophone Africa and the Black Atlantic: Literary, Artistic, and Cultural Perspectives
Course Description: This course explores the rich literary, artistic, and cultural landscapes of Lusophone Africa and the broader Black Atlantic. It will examine the historical, social, and political contexts that shape these cultural expressions, focusing on the intersections of identity, migration, and transnationalism, examining the last stages of Portuguese colonialism in Lusophone Africa, the African liberation movements and the efforts to forge new transnational relations among Portugal, Lusophone Africa and Brazil.

Sessional Lecturer I $9,820.70 (inclusive of vacation pay)

Minimum Qualifications:
Completed Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, Lusophone Africa, African Studies, Cultural Studies or related fields. A scholarly background in African Studies, Lusophone Africa and relevant areas. Teaching experiences required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant teaching experience at the university level preferred.
Responsibilities:
Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; and holding regular office hours.
Duties of this position shall be performed at the campus on which the position is located.
