sessional instructors

to teach the following courses in

Winter 2026

(January 5, 2026 - April 30, 2026).


ART 231 (LEC 02) -

2D Fundamentals


Course dates: January 12 - April 14, 2026

Mondays and Wednesdays 14:00 - 16:30

Course description:

Foundation course in two-dimensional art making. Creative exploration of pictorial space, colour, and composition. Working with wet and dry media, students will develop imagery and concepts, promoting technical competence and artistic vision.

Qualifications/Requirements:



MFA in Art. Other relevant graduate-level credentials (MA or studio-based PhD) will also be considered. Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level, especially drawing courses. Outstanding professional achievement or substantial training in the field of Art and the focus of the course. Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities.

ART 233 (LEC 02) -

3D Fundamentals


Course dates: January 12 - April 14, 2026

Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30 - 11:00

Course description:

Foundation course in three-dimensional art making. Students will be introduced to the elements and principles of art through three-dimensional creative exploration. Students will be introduced to the technical shops and will have the possibility of working in wood, metal, and other materials. Research, problem solving, visual fluency and conceptual development.

MFA in Art. Other relevant graduate-level credentials (MA or studio-based PhD) will also be considered. Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level, especially drawing courses. Outstanding professional achievement or substantial training in the field of Art and the focus of the course. Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities.

ARHI 305 (LEC 01) -

Canadian Art History (Online)


Course dates: January 12 - April 14, 2026

Web-based, online asynchronous

Course description:

A critical analysis of the forms, objects, and practices that compose the art canon of northern North America. Organized thematically, this course covers the period of history ranging from European contact to the present day.

Qualifications/Requirements:



A PhD in Art History or related field is required. Applicants should have a record of teaching within the field of art history, and ideally experience teaching large, introductory surveys of global art history. Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level. Outstanding professional achievement or substantial training in the field of art history. Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities.
Please note that the courses are tentative, pending sufficient enrollments.

For salary information, please refer to TUCFA's Collective Agreement, Schedule B. As per the Collective Agreement, the Faculty of Arts adheres to the right of first refusal terms (Section 23.12.1 and 23.12.2) for Sessional Appointments.

Application Process




All applicants must provide a letter specifying the course(s) and session(s) of interest (in order of preference), outlining their qualifications to teach each course. Applicants who have taught in the Department within the past two years need not provide anything further. More information may be requested later in the selection process.


New applicants must submit:


A current CV containing relevant teaching experience (e.g., courses taught, textbooks used, where and when taught). Names and contact information for 3 potential referees; and Teaching evaluations (if available)

Doctoral students must have successfully completed their candidacy exams prior to the beginning of the term in question for their applications to be given consideration. They should also have discussed their application with their supervisor and include a letter of support from their supervisors with their application. Those who have completed the Instructional Skills Workshop at the Teaching and Learning Centre will also be given special consideration.
