Position Description The Department of Art and Art History within the Faculty of Arts invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach courses in Spring and Summer 2023. Lectures for the spring 2023 term run from May 3 to June 15, and lectures for the summer 2023 term run from June 26 to August 8; however, some course offerings may run for three weeks rather than six weeks. ART 311.20: Topics in Art (Approaches to Art Therapy) Course dates: May 3 to June 15, 2023

Course description: Topics related to contemporary studio and curatorial practices such as spirituality, exhibitions, digital storytelling, new media, or public art. Topic description: This course offers introductory perspectives to the subject and profession of art therapy, its history, theory and practice. It aims to acquaint students to the potentials of symbolic visual expression and the creative process in relation to art therapy clinical applications, as well as through an experiential workshop component.

ART 311.01: Topics in Art (Interactive Storytelling)
Course dates: June 26-August 8, 2023

Course description: Topics related to contemporary studio and curatorial practices such as spirituality, exhibitions, digital storytelling, new media, or public art. Topic description: This course explores the techniques, structures, and possibilities of storytelling in which the reader/viewer can make decisions which impact the story itself. The course focuses on interactive storytelling as implemented in digital platforms such as video games, the internet, interactive fiction and film, and augmented/virtual reality. We will also discuss some examples of interactive storytelling in non-digital media. Students will learn concepts relevant to interactive storytelling, consider examples in a variety of genres, and complete assignments leading to the generation of an interactive story using tools appropriate for beginners.
