OCAD University (OCAD U), Canada\xe2\x80\x99s university of the imagination, provides a vibrant and stimulating environment for its faculty and students. OCAD U is currently seeking outstanding, creative and collaborative teachers in the following sessional opportunities/opportunity.

The Faculty of Arts & Science invites applications for the following anticipated course offerings in the fall and/or winter semester of the 2023-24 academic year:

HUMN-2006 -501: The Culture of Science (0.5 credit)

( Winter Semester: January 4, 2024 \xe2\x80\x93 April 4, 2024; Monday; 3:10 PM - 6:10 PM; Blended)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This lecture course explores changing conceptions of the universe and the body to introduce students to issues in the history, philosophy and culture of the natural sciences from the early modern period to the present day. We examine how science has been shaped as a body of knowledge and as an enterprise by ideological, political and social issues. Students are also introduced to models of scientific inquiry and ideas of objectivity, rationality, paradigm shifts, and progress.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The successful applicant should have a terminal degree in art, design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience
• Experience teaching at the post secondary level is considered an asset, equivalent relevant experience will be considered
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Sessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with salary level of $6,507 plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act. These positions are subject to budgetary approval and satisfactory enrolment levels.
