The Faculty of Arts, Department of Fine Arts/Music at the Concordia University of Edmonton invites applications of qualified candidates for a sessional position in music therapy to teach University level music therapy courses. At this time, we offer one introductory course in Music Therapy every two years. The successful applicant may be offered an opportunity to plan and expand our offering of Music Therapy course offerings, should the demand be present, or supervise independent research in the field for capstone presentations.


The Department seeks candidates with a music therapy degree (Masters in Music Therapy or related degree) that can bring innovative and engaging pedagogies in the field of Music Therapy. Music@CUE is a close-knit, vibrant unit with a student-centered faculty that provides personalized mentorship in shaping the new generation of musicians. Individuals with experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.





Fall semester (2025)




MUS 295 - Introduction to Music Therapy (3 credits)

- Tuesday and Thursday 12:35-13:50


An introduction to music therapy, the study of the prescribed, structured use of music to restore, maintain and/or improve individuals' physical, emotional, social, spiritual, cognitive, and psychological well-being. This course is of interest to those working with individuals with special needs.




Where the course schedule has been set, Sessional Instructors must be able to accommodate the day and time noted for the respective course.

Responsibilities:




Reporting to the Chair, Department of Fine Arts, the Sessional Instructor's responsibilities include:


Develop the course syllabus Prepare and deliver weekly instructional lectures, assignments and examinations relevant to the course taught Grade assignments and exams Provide constructive feedback to students, including effective individualized strategies to support student success Maintain regular office hours Work collegially as a team member with Department and Faculty leadership, Lab Instructors, Colleagues and other stakeholders


Qualifications:




A Master's Degree in Music Therapy, or equivalent University-level teaching effectiveness as demonstrated through student evaluations, or strong demonstration of clinical teaching outside of the University environment Excellent communication skills, both oral and written Demonstrated empathetic approach to the instructional needs and concerns of students Proficiency with Google Email and Apps, Word, Excel, PowerPoint Experience using a learning management system, such as Moodle, and familiarity with educational technologies, with an aptitude to learn other software as required
