OCAD University (OCAD U), Canada\xe2\x80\x99s university of the imagination, provides a vibrant and stimulating environment for its faculty and students. OCAD U is currently seeking outstanding, creative and collaborative teachers in the following sessional opportunities/opportunity.

The Faculty of Arts & Science invites applications for the following anticipated course offerings in the fall and/or winter semester of the 2023-24 academic year:

VISD-3003 -301: History of Furniture (0.5 credit)

( Fall Semester: September 6, 2023 \xe2\x80\x93 December 6, 2023; Thursday; 3:10 PM - 6:10 PM; In-Person)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This lecture course introduces students to a survey of the history, form and function of Western furniture design. The course traces the diverse cultural influences on the development of furniture and considers how furniture reflects the changing social structure of society and the internal environment. The importance of the religious, social and cultural connotations of furniture will also be discussed. Particular emphasis is placed on the relationship of furniture design to its role in representing social status in Western culture and, by the late 19th century, domestic comfort.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The successful applicant should have a terminal degree in art, design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience
• Experience teaching at the post secondary level is considered an asset, equivalent relevant experience will be considered
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Sessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with salary level of $6,507 plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act. These positions are subject to budgetary approval and satisfactory enrolment levels.
