OCAD University (OCAD U), Canadas university of the imagination, provides a vibrant and stimulating environment for its faculty and students. Committed to excellence and contemporary approaches to education, OCAD U offers seventeen undergraduate programs, seven graduate programs, and a variety of continuing education courses in art, media and design. OCAD U is currently seeking outstanding, creative and collaborative teachers in the following sessional opportunities/opportunity.

SOSC-3008 -301: Health & Society (0.5 credit)

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Extraordinary attention is being paid to the idea of promoting "healthy living" in the 21st century. The experience of being "healthy" or suffering "ill health," however, goes beyond what is normally considered in the medical model of disease and diagnosis. This course therefore begins with a survey of lay and folk as well as medical practitioner orientations to the idea of health. It then moves on to explore a number of critical debates concerning healthy living spaces, diet and nutrition, exercise and "fitness," stress and recreation, occupation and lifestyle, "healthism" in advertising, and the "pre-sick."

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The successful applicant should have a terminal degree in art, design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience
• Experience teaching at the post secondary level is considered an asset, equivalent relevant experience will be considered
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Sessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with salary level of $6,507 plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act. These positions are subject to budgetary approval and satisfactory enrolment levels.
