Sessional Instructor, Health Sciences Division Pcp (langford)

Langford, BC, Canada

Job Description

Campus Location: Vancouver Island
Regular / Term: Sessional Instructors - Casual Employment
This is an ongoing posting. Sessional Instructor (PCP) assignments are filled on an as-needed basis. Qualified candidates applying to this posting will be considered for current and future sessional assignments.
Position Summary
Are you passionate about paramedicine and looking to make a meaningful impact in paramedic education? Join the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) as a Sessional Instructor in our Health Sciences Division. Share your real-world experience with aspiring Primary Care Paramedics as they build the advanced clinical skills and decision-making capacity required in today's evolving practice environment. This is your opportunity to shape the future of emergency medical services in British Columbia.
JIBC has launched an extended, year-long Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) program that provides students with more time to learn, practice, and develop their ability to deliver safe, effective patient care. With two overlapping cohorts beginning this fall, we are expanding our instructional team and looking for skilled and committed paramedics to join us. In this teaching role, you will support student learning through hands-on demonstrations, supervised practice, and structured feedback. You will reinforce key concepts, helping learners connect theory to practice, and assess their progress using a range of evaluation tools. You will also maintain accurate records, promote safety and professionalism in the lab, and communicate with students and staff using platforms such as Microsoft Teams, JIBC email, and learning management systems. Creating a respectful, inclusive learning environment and offering feedback to improve instructional delivery are important aspects of the position.
Instructional assignments can be offered in advance of each term for scheduled teaching blocks, depending on program needs. Occasional, ad-hoc teaching opportunities may also arise throughout the term. Your availability and preference for either pre-booked assignments or more flexible opportunities will be considered as schedules are developed, and teaching assignments are offered. This is an excellent opportunity for practicing professionals or those exploring a transition into teaching.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required:

  • Proof of licensing (PCP level or higher) through the Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Branch (EMALB) of British Columbia (or an equivalent level in another Canadian jurisdiction). It is preferred that licences have no restrictions, with applicable endorsements in place (excluding endotracheal intubation).
Preferred:
  • Two or more years of experience working as a paramedic in the ambulance service or related field.
  • Previous teaching, preceptorship, coaching, or mentoring experience in clinical, academic, community, or professional settings.
