The Department of Political Science at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a sessional instructor to teach in the Winter 2024 semester. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.
POLS-2310: War and Peace (3 Credits)
The first part of this course introduces students to the key theoretical debates on the causes of war. The second part is dedicated to understanding the challenges associated with obtaining and implementing peace deals, the emergence of terrorism, and nuclear proliferation. The course concludes with a discussion on the future of war and peace, specifically as it relates to technological developments and great power conflict. Students will become familiar with these topics by readings that cover a wide variety of conflicts and issues including the 1982 Falklands War, the 1991 Gulf War, the 2003 American-Anglo invasion of Iraq, the rise of ISIS, and the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Lecture: Three hours a week
Qualifications:
Successful applicant will have a minimum of a Ph.D. in Political Science.
Members of the Department of Political Science\'s Sessional Roster will be given priority in consideration for this position.
