Job Description

The Department of Chemistry has an opening for a sessional instructor for the upcoming Fall Semester 2023 (September- December 2023) to teach Chemistry 3310 - Physical Chemistry II This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

CHEM 3310 - Physical Chemistry II

This course is an introduction to quantum mechanics and spectroscopy for chemists. Topics covered include blackbody radiation, the photoelectric effect, diffraction, particle in a box, rigid rotor, harmonic oscillator and hydrogen atom in detail. The course will also explore the interaction of light with matter and applications to rotational, vibrational and electronic spectroscopy.

Three lecture hours and three hours laboratory a week.

Requisites:

Chemistry 2310 with a minimum of 60% and Mathematics 2910, or permission of the Chair.
Chemistry 3310L - Must be taken at the same time as this course.

Qualifications:

Successful applicants will have a minimum of a Master\'s degree in a related area.

Preference will be given to the qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
