Course number and title: HMB306H1F - Ethical Considerations in Emerging Technology
Course Description: Advancing technology increases our ability to intervene in the course of natural events involving human health and well being. Questions arise as whether we ought to and who will benefit or be harmed. This course considers the far-reaching bioethical implications of emerging bio-technology. Topics to be explored include but are not limited to ethical considerations in emerging reproductive technologies, genetic alteration/genetic enhancement. Use of life support technologies, synthetic life, life extension.
Estimated course enrolment: 110 students
Hours of Work: 108 (to be confirmed)
Class schedule: Lectures on Mondays 9am - 11am (in-person)
Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2023 - December 31, 2023
Salary: $52.26 per hour plus vacation pay;
*Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum qualifications: Candidates should have a completed M.Sc. degree in a related field and basic knowledge of bioethics and ethical theory.
Preffered qualifications: Previous Teaching Assistant experience in a bioethics course preferred.
