Course number and title: FAH287H5S European Art of the Nineteenth Century
Topic description: Surveys major developments in European art and architecture from the late eighteenth through the end of the nineteenth century, including Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Orientalism, Realism, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Symbolism. Artistic responses to political change, urbanisation, capitalism, colonialism, the Academy, and the Salon will be explored as well as changing constructions of gender, race, class, and national identities through visual media.
Estimated course enrolment: 150
Estimated TA support: 140 hours
Class schedule: Monday 11:00-13:00, Tutorials 13:00-18:00
Sessional dates of appointment: January 5 - April 6, 2026
Salary:
$54.27 per hour + 4% vacation pay
Minimum qualifications: Graduate degree in Art History or Comparative Literature is preferred. Previous TA experience in this course will be preferred.
Description of duties: (May include but are not limited to): May include but are not limited to): Conducting tutorials & maintaining scheduled office hours, student and course instructor contact, grading, invigilating, and other clerical duties.
