Job Description

Thompson Rivers University Physical Sciences Department (Physics) offers a Physics Major, as well as several courses supporting other programs such as Engineering, Architectural Design, and Respiratory Therapy. TRU is located in Kamloops, BC, at the confluence of the North and South Thompson Rivers.


The successful candidate will deliver first year Engineering physics labs. The delivery is in person and the candidate must be available for labs during the daytime, as well as evening sections. Under the successful candidate's supervision, students work through lab exercises and submit electronic workbooks. The duties include grading the workbooks and posting grades on course management system. Working with lecturers to complete engineering accreditation data entry is also required.


Labs run from September through early December. Successful candidates will also be expected to provide assistance to the department in December repairing equipment, outreach, updating lab manuals and general inventory. These hours outside of the lab teaching duties will not exceed the weekly hours associated with laboratory work, and are flexible.


It is expected the candidate will also provide office hours throughout the term.


The workload is subject enrollment and budgetary constraints.




QUALIFICATIONS
Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is looking for a passionate educator to deliver a range of physics labs through the Fall 2025 term. TRU offers physics courses integral to the Physics Degree, as well as service courses to a diverse number of programs. Applicants should have proven teaching experience and be able to deliver student-centered, engaging lectures as well as been comfortable in working with students through laboratory exercises.


An Ph. D. in experimental physics from a Canadian University is required. Applicants must be documented to work in Canada.
