The Facilities Department is responsible for the entire physical facilities of the University of Winnipeg, including all buildings and grounds, furnishings, and fixed equipment.

Facilities is seeking full-time continuing Service Worker III positions to perform general maintenance duties and apply particular skills throughout the University under direction from the Facilities Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Operates snow removal equipment in the Winter and grounds keeping equipment in the Summer to maintain the safety, appearance, and cleanliness of buildings, entrances, steps, walkways, parking lots, and grounds.
  • Lifts and transports furniture, equipment, boxes, etc. to a variety of locations on campus which may include setups for special events, convocations, registrations, etc.
  • Repairs or installs interior furnishings/finishings (e.g., ceiling tiles, drywall, furniture, carpets, moldings, wall coverings, etc.)
  • May maintain the Department\'s stock control of general and cleaning supplies and materials.
  • Makes regular inspections for general conditions and fire hazards and takes appropriate action.
  • Uses a computer to retrieve and log Work Orders.
  • Assists in evacuations, according to procedures, in a safe and responsible manner, whenever necessary.
  • Is responsible for security and maintenance of all assigned tools and equipment.
  • Performs carpentry tasks such as minor building renovations, repair and maintenance of structures, and construction of new elements not requiring a building permit.
  • Assist a qualified journeyperson with mounting conduit, electrical boxes and pulling wire for no more than 10% of the total number of hours they work annually.
  • Conducts plumbing tasks including the installation, maintenance, and repair of domestic water systems and related equipment under the supervision of a license journeyperson. Basic plumbing tasks may be completed independently with approval of the plumbing shop.
  • Engages in painting duties such as surface preparation and the application of paints and other finishes.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school completion or acceptable alternative.
  • Five years of directly related experience in general maintenance including but not limited to: moving, lawn maintenance, snow removal, and a practical knowledge of carpentry, electrical, painting, and plumbing skills, which is required at this level, to support the Facilities Department.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions in English and communicate effectively to promote cooperation and goodwill with all staff, students, and the public.
  • Must be able to handle and operate the equipment necessary for the performance of duties.
  • Persons responsible for trade work must have a good working knowledge of pertinent trade skills.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Condition(s) of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to lift and transport heavy items without accident or injury (up to 50 lb.).
The salary range for this position will be from $57,408.00 to $61,145.50 annually.
