Your Opportunity:
Under the supervision of the Working Leader, the incumbent will distribute sterile products and patient equipment to nursing units. The incumbent will be responsible for delivering case carts to the operating rooms, and the transportation of soiled equipment and case carts to the Medical Device Reprocessing Department for decontamination and reprocessing. The incumbent will also be responsible for daily and weekly departmental cleaning of reprocessing equipment and areas as required. This position entails extensive walking, pushing and pulling of heavy carts.
Description:
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma from a recognized institution is required. (Internal applicants without a High School Diploma will be considered).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a hospital setting is preferred. Knowledge of handling sterile supplies and infection control practices would be an asset. Ability to work independently, set priorities, show good judgment and cooperation in daily work assignments. Must demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and other staff, be conscientious, reliable and able to work well a team. Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English well.
