SERVICE TECHNICIAN

Job Title: Service Technician

Department: Fort McMurray Service Centre

Reports to: Service Center Operations Manager

Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada

Shift: 1st

Purpose:

Inspect, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair stationary industrial machines and mechanical rotating equipment including, but not limited to; centrifugal pumps and speed reducers. Report and assist in preventing quality issues on GIW supplied and serviced parts and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotes safety, environmental and housekeeping as job #1 at all times, and complies with all company rules, policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to safety policies, company guidelines, rules and policies including attendance and punctuality and ensures that direct reports do the same.
  • Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to verify work procedures.
  • Ensure rebuild BOMs and Repair Scopes are accurately created through the inspection process and provided to the appropriate personnel for quoting and scheduling of repair work.
  • Develop technical work instructions and procedures related to equipment serviced by the Fort McMurray Service Centre.
  • Develop and maintain documents to record dimensions, specifications and final test results of rebuilt equipment and ensure the use of such documents for each and every rebuild.
  • Maintain an inventory listing of all inspection tools, develop a calibration interval for each tool and coordinate calibration of the tools.
  • Prepare non-conformance documentation and coordinate with internal groups to ensure product quality issues are addressed.
  • Perform final inspections on rebuilt and repaired equipment, both internal and outsourced, to ensure quality standards have been met.
  • Meet with customers and suppliers to resolve quality related problems.
  • Accompany sales staff, or travel unaccompanied, to customer sites as and when required to meet with user groups and reliability personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Secondary Mechanical/Technical training a plus
  • Red Seal Millwright Journeyman Certification a plus
Knowledge & Experience:
  • 3 to 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in the rebuild and/or repair of rotating equipment, along with procedures and processes required to successfully operate a service facility. Good working knowledge of GIW pumps and assembly procedures.
  • Mechanical and technical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Patient, organized, and able to work in a team environment
  • Capable of reading and understanding drawing layouts and parts sheets.
