Join us and be the powerhouse behind our campus community\'s comfort and sustainability!What You\'ll Do:Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor of Maintenance, Mechanical Supervisor of Projects or Mechanical Supervisor of Controls, this position is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Maintenance, construction, repair and installation of steam heating, hot water heating, chilled water, domestic water, calibration, fire safety systems, refrigeration and air handling equipment.
  • Commissioning, balancing and inspecting new spaces and buildings, including verifying sequences of operation, testing failure modes to ensure safety to people and equipment, as well as cataloguing of new equipment.

Position RequirementsWhat You\'ll Bring to this Position:
  • Successful completion of Grade 12
  • Five years\' related experience
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role:
  • A valid Saskatchewan Journeyperson certificate and/or valid Interprovincial Journeyperson\'s Certificate in Plumbing Trade. All certification must be combined with commercial and industrial related experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles and application of layout, fabrication, installation, repair and maintenance of various types of mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of various tools, equipment and machinery associated with the mechanical trade.
  • Ability to understand and execute written and verbal instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, schematics and associated specifications.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with staff, the general public, external consultants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of computer systems.
  • Training, upgrading, and continuing education related to the position.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver\'s License.
  • Possession of a Fireman\'s, Refrigeration Engineer, General Gas, Phoenix/Celeris and Cross-connection certification would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, special equipment, and procedures that apply to the mechanical trades and a general understanding of electrical / structural maintenance and construction.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality.
  • Ability to identify and analyze mechanical problems and to formulate solutions and implement decisions.
  • Have knowledge of, understand and comply with University health and safety requirements, Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and all safe work procedures and practices applicable to the position.
  • Ability to properly use safety equipment, machine guards, and safety devices. All personal protective equipment must be used as appropriate.
  • Ability to identify and report unsafe acts, workplace hazards, and incidents that result (or could result) in injury, illness, or environmental damage.
  • Ability to work and encourage others to work and act safely.
Physical DemandsWorking Conditions and Physical Effort:
May be required to work overtime and weekends; may be required to work various shifts; required to be on the call out schedule for emergency after hour calls. Physical activity is a primary part of the job. Requires the ability to lift, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds. Work will be performed at heights, in crawl spaces, on rooftops and will include the use of ladders and powered mobile lifts. Work involves exposure to unusual elements such as high pressure steam, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, chemicals, hazardous materials, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises. Work environment may involve exposure to potentially hazardous material and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and will include the use of personal protective equipment.
Pay Grade CUPE Phase 5
Salary Range $58,212.96 - $78,585.52 Annually
